The maca plant (scientifically Lepidium meyenii) belongs to the cruciferous family (Brassicaceae) and has been cultivated in the Peruvian Andes for over 2000 years. There it has established itself as a valuable source of nutrition.
Maca is characterised by its high nutrient density. The root contains a variety of dietary fibres, secondary plant substances, vitamins, minerals and proteins.
